{^^^The first book event I ever attended—Getting Rachel Renee Russell to sign my copy of Dork Diaries!}
{^^Me with National Book Award Winner Sabaa Tahir!}
As a child, in order to fall asleep, I would lay on my stomach and trace words into my sheets with a fingertip, pretending I held a large quill, or a very special fountain pen. FORGET. WONDERFUL. UNIQUE. SPIRAL. HOLLOW.
I attended Montana State University and earned my B.A., double majoring in English Writing and English Literature, graduating in December 2022. I studied Greek epics, Shakespearean tropes, stream-of-consciousness novels of the early 20th century, queer lit, technical science writing, and surrealist poetry. I learned to challenge the literary canon, to explore why some art is deemed “classic” and some is not.
I’ve worked at my university library, a large bookseller chain, and interned for an indie publishing press. I read a wide variety of genres. I write short stories, poems, and am working on a full length novel, a contemporary romance, which I hope to have published soon. I am in my second round of edits.
I live in words. I nest in them. I’ve made my home in them. I drink them. I eat them. I can pick up a book an escape, or pick up another and learn something new, in order to find a new way to engage with the world, to experience it differently. Books can chew you up the same way you devour them, and you should let them, glady, wholly.
This website is a compendium of this. It’s the proof. It’s everything. A portfolio of my complete works, always worked on, always added to. I needed somewhere to keep it all. This is it. And if you’re still here, that means I kept your attention for this long, and I did my job. Imagine me smiling.
Thanks for taking a chance on me. It means more than you know.
Love, Isabelle
